The absorption ceiling
This is the entire reason a liquid phosphatidylcholine base exists. Vitamin C does not enter you by diffusion. It rides a family of sodium-dependent transporters in the gut wall, and those transporters saturate. Past a certain dose, adding milligrams stops adding vitamin C and starts adding expensive urine.
Median oral bioavailability of plain ascorbic acid by single-dose size, from the NIH depletion-repletion pharmacokinetic work of Levine and colleagues (Proc Natl Acad Sci USA, 1996). These are published figures for unencapsulated vitamin C in healthy volunteers. They are not measurements of this product, and we are not presenting them as such.
At the low doses your grandmother's diet supplied, absorption is nearly complete. At the gram doses most people actually reach for, less than half of the label amount is getting across. That is not a scandal — it is normal physiology, and it is why the smartest thing a formulator can do at a gram is work on the delivery rather than keep printing bigger numbers on the front of the bottle.
A 2025 scoping review pooled ten human trials comparing liposomal to non-liposomal ascorbate. Nine of the ten showed higher blood levels from the liposomal form. The size of the advantage ran roughly 1.2 to 5.4 times higher peak concentration across doses from 0.15 to 10 grams — and the reviewers' own conclusion was that the formulations and protocols differ so much that the results cannot fairly be pooled into a single number. So we will not print one. The mechanism is real and repeatedly demonstrated. The magnitude depends on the specific liposome, and we have not yet published characterization data on ours. That is the honest state of it.
Three ingredients. All three disclosed by amount.
No proprietary blend. No "liposomal complex" hiding the ratio. Here is what is in a teaspoon and why each piece is there.
The active. We use a buffered blend rather than straight ascorbic acid for one practical reason: a full gram of unbuffered ascorbic acid on an empty stomach is the reason most people abandon high-dose vitamin C within two weeks. Sodium ascorbate is the salt form, effectively pH-neutral, and pharmacologically the same ascorbate once it is in you. The ascorbic acid portion keeps the finished liquid in a stable, mildly acidic range.
A gram is a deliberate choice, not a marketing number. Published pharmacokinetics show plasma levels plateau in the range of a few hundred milligrams per day, and single doses above a gram get progressively less well absorbed. A gram sits at the practical top of that useful window and is the standard dose used in most of the human liposomal comparison work.
This is not an added ingredient. It is the counter-ion that comes along with the buffered form of the vitamin, and we disclose it on the panel because it is real. One hundred twenty-five milligrams is about five percent of the 2,300 mg Daily Value — for context, roughly what you get from a slice of bread. It is not a meaningful sodium load for most people. If you are on a physician-directed sodium-restricted diet, count it and talk to your doctor.
The delivery system, and the ingredient most companies do not disclose. Phosphatidylcholine is the same phospholipid your own cell membranes are built from. In water it self-assembles into bilayer spheres, and vitamin C in the aqueous phase gets carried inside them. We disclose the amount on the panel so you can compare it against anything else on the shelf, most of which will not tell you.
Two things about the source. It is sunflower-derived, not soy, which matters to a large number of people and costs more to do. And it is non-hydrogenated — hydrogenation makes a phospholipid more shelf-stable and less biologically like the membranes it is supposed to mimic. As a side note, phosphatidylcholine is roughly thirteen percent choline by molecular weight, so 400 mg carries on the order of 50 mg of choline. That is a bonus, not a reason to buy this, and it is a small fraction of the adult adequate intake.
Purified water. Natural flavors, plant-derived, no MSG. Potassium sorbate at 0.1 percent to prevent spoilage. That is the whole list. A liquid vitamin C without a preservative is a liquid vitamin C that grows something in your refrigerator, and 0.1 percent potassium sorbate is the smallest honest way to prevent it. No added sugar, no glycerin bulking, no artificial sweetener, no coloring.

Tolerance and habit
Plasma vitamin C climbs within a couple of hours of a dose and is largely cleared inside a day. That is normal — it is a water-soluble vitamin, not a depot. Week one is about whether it sits well and whether you will actually take it. Buffered and liquid is what makes the answer yes for most people.
Baseline, not spikes
Daily consistency is what raises the floor. White cells and tissue stores respond to what you supply every day, not to the size of any one dose. If you are going to split it, half a teaspoon twice a day holds a steadier level than one teaspoon once — that is true of all oral vitamin C.
Foundation work
This is infrastructure. Its job is to be present through heavy training blocks, travel weeks, short sleep, and the season when everyone around you is sick. You judge a foundation nutrient over quarters, by how the hard stretches go, not by how any single morning feels.
It will not treat, cure, or prevent anything. It will not give you a noticeable jolt — if you feel something dramatic from a dose of vitamin C, that is usually your gut talking, not your immune system. It does not replace sleep, protein, or training. It is one input, done properly.

There is no lot-specific certificate of analysis published for this product yet, and we have not published particle-size or encapsulation-efficiency data for this particular liposome. Until those exist and are posted, you will not see a batch-verified badge on this page and you will not see an absorption multiple. Both are easy to print and neither means anything without the paperwork behind it. When we have that paperwork, it goes here.
Vitamin C is one of the few supplements where the argument was never whether it works. It is whether it gets in. I keep this one in the door of my refrigerator and take a teaspoon most mornings — more reliably in a heavy training block, and always the week before I fly. We built it in a liquid phosphatidylcholine base because I did not want to swallow four capsules to reach a gram, and I did not want a gram of raw ascorbic acid hitting an empty stomach before a swim. Where it sits in a daily protocol
Vitamin C is a team player by design — it works in the water compartment of the cell and hands off to the fat-soluble antioxidants that work everywhere else. That makes it one of the easiest things in the line to build around.
Take it in the morning
A teaspoon with your first glass of water, alongside whatever else is in your morning stack. Vitamin C also enhances the absorption of non-heme iron, so if you take a plant-based iron supplement, taking them together is deliberate rather than accidental.
Split it on hard weeks
Half a teaspoon morning and evening holds a steadier blood level than a single teaspoon, which is worth doing during a heavy training block, a travel week, or a stretch of short sleep. The bottle lasts the same number of days either way.
Questions, answered.
Is this really liposomal, or is it just lecithin in water?
Fair question, and it is the right one to ask of this whole category. The formula is built by a cold-water process with non-hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine, which is the standard way liposomes are formed without heat or solvent. What we have not yet published for this specific product is third-party particle-size distribution and encapsulation-efficiency data, which is the only way to prove liposome formation rather than a simple emulsion or micellar suspension. Until we post that, we describe what the formula contains and how it is made, and we do not claim a specific absorption advantage. When the characterization data is in hand, it goes on this page.
How much better is it absorbed than regular vitamin C?
We are not going to give you a number, and you should be skeptical of anyone who does without showing their work. The human research on liposomal versus non-liposomal ascorbate consistently favors the liposomal form, but the size of the advantage varies enormously across studies because the formulations vary enormously — a 2025 review of ten trials found the reported differences too heterogeneous to pool. Those studies tested other companies' liposomes at doses from 150 mg to 10 grams. They are not measurements of this bottle, and presenting them as if they were would be dishonest.
Why 1,000 mg and not 2,000 or 5,000?
Because the physiology stops rewarding you. Plasma vitamin C plateaus in the low hundreds of milligrams per day, single-dose absorption falls below fifty percent past about a gram, and the surplus is filtered into urine. A gram in one teaspoon is the practical top of the useful range and it is also the dose used in most of the human liposomal comparison work. Bigger numbers on a front label are a marketing decision, not a physiological one.
Medications and safety — what should I know?
Talk to your physician or pharmacist before starting this if any of the following apply to you. High-dose vitamin C increases urinary oxalate excretion, which matters if you have a history of calcium oxalate kidney stones or reduced kidney function. It substantially increases the absorption of non-heme iron, which matters if you have hemochromatosis, thalassemia, or another iron-overload condition. People with G6PD deficiency should be cautious with high-dose vitamin C. Vitamin C can interfere with some point-of-care blood glucose meters and with fecal occult blood testing, so tell your provider you are taking it. If you are receiving chemotherapy or radiation, do not add an antioxidant supplement without your oncologist's direction. Very high vitamin C intake has been reported to affect anticoagulant response in isolated cases, so if you are on warfarin, keep your intake consistent and tell your prescriber. This is a supplement, not a treatment for any condition, and none of the above is a substitute for your own physician's advice.
Will it upset my stomach?
It is far less likely to than an equivalent gram of straight ascorbic acid, which is exactly why we buffered it. Loose stools and gut discomfort are the classic dose-limiting effects of oral vitamin C at gram levels regardless of form. If a full teaspoon does not sit well, split it — half in the morning, half in the evening — or take it with food. If it still does not sit well, stop.
Does the sodium matter?
For most people, no. There are 125 mg of sodium per teaspoon, about five percent of the Daily Value, which is in the neighborhood of a slice of bread. It comes from the sodium ascorbate that makes the formula buffered. If you are on a sodium-restricted diet under a physician's direction, count it in your daily total and ask your doctor.
What does it taste like, and how should I take it?
Shake the bottle first — a phospholipid liquid will separate a little on standing and that is normal. Take it straight off the spoon or stir it into a few ounces of cool water or juice. Do not mix it into anything hot; heat is not kind to either vitamin C or a phospholipid carrier. It is naturally flavored, with no added sugar or artificial sweetener, so it tastes like a lightly flavored citrus liquid rather than candy.
Does it need to be refrigerated?
Yes, after opening. Refrigerate and use within a reasonable window. Vitamin C in solution oxidizes over time with exposure to warmth, light, and air, and cold storage slows all three. Before opening, store it in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
How long does a bottle last?
The label lists about thirty servings at one teaspoon per day, so roughly a month at the standard daily dose. Five fluid ounces is just under 148 milliliters, so if you are measuring precisely you will get about twenty-nine full teaspoons out of it rather than a hard thirty. We would rather tell you that than round it up.
Can I take it with my other IOH products?
Yes. Vitamin C is one of the most stackable nutrients there is and it does not compete with anything in the line. If you take a plant-based iron supplement, taking it alongside this will increase how much of that iron you absorb — which is usually the goal, but worth knowing on purpose. If you are unsure how to sequence your protocol, that is exactly the kind of thing a lab-based consultation is for.
Is it third-party tested?
Testing is performed at multiple stages of production in the FDA-registered, cGMP facility where it is made. We are not going to claim a third-party certification or post a certificate of analysis for this product until there is a lot-specific document to actually show you. When there is, it will appear on this page and in the product images. We hold that line on every SKU, and it is the reason you can trust the claims we do make.
Absorption is the whole argument
Anyone can put a gram of vitamin C in a bottle. The question is how much of it ever reaches you.
We disclosed the phospholipid. We disclosed the sodium. We buffered the acid so you can actually take a full gram every day without dreading it. And we told you plainly what we cannot yet document, because a page that only tells you the flattering half is not worth reading.
One teaspoon. Every morning. Through the training block, through the travel week, through the season when everyone around you is coughing. That is what a foundation nutrient is for — and this is the one I take.
